Waste Sorting is where you log the building’s sorted waste per fraction — concrete, gypsum, glass, metals, packaging, and so on — so end-of-life and waste-treatment emissions can be calculated against the regulation’s defaults. You can record sortings by hand, bulk-import them from an Excel template, or distribute the project’s mapped material masses across fractions in one go. Open it by clicking the Waste Sorting tab in the Project Dashboard header.

The available fractions, the default emission factors per fraction, and the Excel template Real-Time LCA generates are all pulled from the project’s country and regulation. See Methodology & Compliance for the rules.

Page layout

The page has two panels:
PanelPurpose
Waste Sorting Inventory (left)The page is by default only showing Waste Sorting Inventory. The fractions defined by the country’s regulation — each one is a collapsible group that you record sortings under.
Materials (right)Is expandable and shows the materials already mapped in Material Mapping, available to drag onto a fraction so the project’s masses are distributed into it.
The kg / ton toggle in the top-left changes the unit used for the weights shown across the page. The header strip shows a live % waste on average counter.

Fraction rows

Each fraction in the inventory shows the running total weight, the fraction’s emission factor in kgCO₂-eq, and the resulting kgCO₂-eq/m²/year contribution. Expand a fraction to record sortings against it.

Add a sorting manually

Expand a fraction, fill in the row, and click Add:
  • Name — a label for the sorting (for example, Removal of gypsum, lorry, 12/2025).
  • Pickup date — when the waste was collected.
  • Weight + Unit — the amount of waste in kg or ton.
The fraction’s Fraction Emission factor sits above the form so you can see the unit emission before committing.

Committed sortings appear in the fraction group’s row counter and the totals update.

You can keep adding sortings to the same fraction — for example, separate pickups across the construction period.

Bulk-import from Excel

For projects with many fractions or pickups, use the Excel template instead of recording rows one by one. Open the Upload Excel file action and click Download Template to get the country-specific spreadsheet. The template has a dropdown column listing the regulation’s fractions.

Fill in one row per sorting — fraction, name, weight, unit, and pickup date — save the file, and drop it back into the upload modal.

Distribute mapped materials into a fraction

When you want the project’s actual modeled materials to land in a fraction — instead of (or in addition to) a fixed pickup weight — drag a material card from the Materials panel onto the fraction group. You can drop one material at a time, or enter selection mode and add many at once.

When you drop the selection on a fraction, the Add waste sorting to modal opens. Enter a Total Weight or a Percentage — the weight is distributed proportionally across the selected materials based on their relative masses in the project.

Filter and sort the Materials panel

The Materials panel has its own filter and sort dropdowns so you can narrow it down before dragging.

Review amounts after a material change

When a mapped material’s mass changes in the project — because the model was updated, a mapping was replaced, or quantities were re-imported — the waste sortings that referenced that material need to be reconciled. The Review Amounts badge in the top-right of the Materials panel lights up with the number of sortings that need a look.

Click it to open the review modal. It lists each affected material with the previous mass, the new mass, and the proposed new sorting weight (kept proportional to the original distribution).

Custom groupings

If your project tracks a fraction that does not exist in the regulation’s default list, click + Create Custom Grouping at the top of the inventory to add one. Custom groupings behave like any other fraction — you can drag materials onto them and record sortings against them.

Search, sort, and filter

The toolbar above the inventory has the same shape as the other mapping pages:
  • Search inventory — free-text search across fraction names.
  • Sort — order the list by Name, Emission, Sortings, or Waste weight.
  • Filter — narrow by Waste Type.
